Description: This course presents eleven widely-used models for the treatment of drug abuse and/or substance abuse and dual disorders. Samples of educational approaches and practical exercises are presented in lay terms. Formats are given for typical sessions. The information presented in this course will assist both the novice counselor and the seasoned veteran in their work, regardless of the treatment setting. All treatments presented have been tested and proven successful and easy to incorporate into outpatient, residential, or inpatient settings. Course Objectives: 1. Identify popular and widely-used drug abuse and dual disorders treatment models. 2. Identify appropriateness of various treatment settings for each model. 3. Understand the counselor-client relationship in each model. 4. Identify appropriate assessment techniques in each model. 5. Understand the role of significant others in each model.
